carlsberg sells dresden brewery, increases china investment

carlsberg has sold a brewery in dresden to frankfurter brauhaus in order to focus on key brands in the region. the danish brewer has also just increased its investment in the chinese firm chongqing brewery. the dresden brewery employs 172 people and produces the swiss beer brand feldschlösschen for the northern german market. core brand focus carlsberg said it is selling the brewery to frankfurter brauhaus in order to concentrate on its five core brands in northern germany: carlsberg, holsten, lübzer, duckstein, and astra. more

a new study describing how aromas are released during consumption of cheese may help better understand their sensory profiles, say the researchers. the new study, published in the international dairy journal, suggests that aroma compounds from foods are released during the chewing process, and not just as sections of the food are swallowed. as these aromas reach the nose, an increase in sensory perception may strengthen flavour intensity. more

brussels backs coop's takeover of transgourmet

swiss food manufacturer and retailer coop has been given permission by the eu to assume full ownership of germany-based food wholesaler transgourmet. coop has shared control of transgourmet with german retailer rewe since 2007. transgourmet, which sells food and other consumer products in france, germany, poland, romania, switzerland and russia, claims to be europe’s second-largest cash-and-carry and foodservice company. more
